CLIMATE ACTION FOR FOOD AND EDUCATION PROJECT

Duty Station: Gezaulole & Pugu, Dar es Salaam

Project: Climate Action for Food and Education (CAFÉ Project)

Duration: Six (6) months

Qualified candidates between 25 – 40 years are encouraged to apply.

Background: Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is a global humanitarian non-governmental organization operating in 120 countries to serve humanity, so all may live as God intended. Focused on promoting the well-being of the most vulnerable, the organization considers the empowerment of women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) as key to development and well-being of majority rural populations in the world.

In recent years, ADRA Tanzania has been implementing interventions targeting persons with albinism (PWAs). Discrimination, stigmatization and bullying of persons with albinism is common in Tanzania. Various reports show that most attacks on people with albinism are committed on women, young children, especially girls highlighting that they are more vulnerable and easier to find and capture because they do not have the physical strength to fend off attackers. As for women, some are reported as victims of abuse while children suffer infanticide and neglect by their parents, only to be cared for by either their unemployed mothers or grandmothers. Since these persons with albinism live under a constant threat of attack, they are not able to participate in day-to-day activities including education freely and comfortably. Other factors preventing them from participating in their day-to-day activities is stigmatization which also affects their self-esteem.

With funding from Polish Aid, ADRA wishes to employ (2) Project Volunteers who have livelihoods and advocacy knowledge and experience of at least 2 years. Ideal candidates should have knowledge on urban agribusiness.
